14 June 2018, Bangkok - 'Beautiful Bangkok: Smartphone Photo Contest by MQDC' is now underway, giving photographers until 15 July to get their work displayed at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC).
The competition, considered the first of its kind in Thailand, is taking place during PhotoBangkok 2018, a triennial non-profit international photography festival.
MQDC, the main sponsor of PhotoBangkok, has launched 'Beautiful Bangkok: Smartphone Photo Contest by MQDC' to reflect smartphone photography's new status, said Andres Ruktasiri, Corporate Creative Strategy Executive Vice President, MQDC.
Photography has become an important part of everyday life where people make and share their life stories through images. Smartphone photography not only inspires the general public, but has entered the world of art, he said.
Submissions are welcome from photographers of all nationalities. Images can be black and white or color but must be original works taken with a smartphone. There are no restrictions on the smartphone model or brand and mobile applications can be used to edit photos. Each applicant can submit up to three images, none having received an award from any other competition.
The winning photographer will receive a 40,000-baht cash prize, with 30,000 baht for the first runner-up, and 20,000 baht for the second. The best 300 images will feature in an exhibition at the BACC from 8 August to 9 September 2018.
