March 2021, New Delhi – “Monotonous” offices must give way to “flexible, vibrant workspaces”, argues an online article by Ms. “Amy” Chulamas Jitpatima, who launched the Whizdom Club coworking space and inspiration hub in New Delhi as head of MQDC India, and Dr. Karndee Leopairote, Chief Advisor to FutureTales Lab, a futurology center in Bangkok by MQDC.

Workspaces are fast-evolving and their design must be regularly revisited, they explain in “Why We Need to Move from Being Just Another Monotonous Office to a Flexible, Vibrant Workspace”.

The feature in BW Businessworld, a leading Indian business magazine, covers how workspaces must evolve, blending physical and virtual elements to serve new needs such as lifelong learning.

“Over a billion people currently in the age group of working professionals today will need re-education or recalibration of their existing skill set by 2030,” the article reveals.

Workspaces will become ageless campuses, where all generations will be in an “always-on mode”.

The World Economic Forum predicts that over 40% of core competencies in most occupations may be replaced by 2022 with skills currently not deemed necessary.

New needs include mobility, flexibility, and contact with nature.

“Providing employees access to indoor plants, nature, and natural light can improve their mental well-being, which also leads to improved overall health and productivity,” the article explains.

“More and more brands need to factor in sustainability while designing workspaces.”

Dr. Karndee and Ms. Amy also call for businesses to also look to serve the wider community.

“Employers of today need to focus on overall health and structured long-term development of employees to ensure long-term profitability, sustenance, and evolution of not just the organization but the universal community.”
