5 August 2021, Bangkok – Dr. Karndee Leopairote, Chief Advisor to FutureTales Lab, spoke on “Asymmetric Development” to The Story Thailand, a digital learning platform.

Dr. Karndee explained that the next 10 years will bring “Asymmetric Development” with rising inequality through development at varying speeds as countries around the world enter the aging society.

New technology and innovations to overcome the physical limitations of older adults will provide great support. But not everyone will have access. Other challenges will include giving equal access to data and technology and ensuring the greatest improvement of public utilities so cities can handle all coming changes.

Dr. Karndee spoke on the environmental issues of clean water and fresh air, valued resources that may lead to conflict like oil in the past. Space technology research is examining space stations, which are now in the analysis and experimental stage.

In the next 20 years, economics and politics will be driven by data. Algorithms and robotics will introduce robot co-workers. Financial technology will play an important role, especially for India as a center of finance like New York, London, and Hong Kong as the financial system takes a new pattern.

Conserving water and air quality is crucial, she added. The deterioration of such resources might be driving the focus on space development, to enable space migration for survival.
