2 July 2021, Bangkok – Dr. Karndee Leopairote, Chief Advisor to FutureTales Lab, spoke on the unit and its foresight mission for e-books by The Story Thailand, a digital learning platform.
Dr. Karndee explained MQDC’s mission “For All Well-Being” to serve all life, involving 6 key areas: 1. Live, 2. Work, 3. Learn, 4. Play, 5. Move, 6. Sustain.

“We used to want to look 10-20 years ahead to see how this world will be. Today we see how fast change is happening and with greater and greater impact. We saw that we had to act and it has to be someone’s duty, so FutureTales Lab was set up.”

Dr. Karndee explained how Future Foresight applies Horizon Scanning using technology such as machine learning, coupled with innovation around the world to scan for weak signals with a STEEPV framework. STEEPV stands for Social, Technological, Economical, Environmental, Political, and Values, which are key to understanding the future.

Deep technology such as robotics and automation will play an important role in daily life. Technology will be developed to solve pain points around the world such as the aging society or inequality.

“As researchers, we are always proud of our results. We then wait for someone to use them. But this place fulfills our needs as researchers. We research and talk with the team and we see our forecasts get instantly applied in our projects. It’s something to be proud of because DTGO and MQDC see future insights not as a trade secret but as knowledge to be shared to build a better future together. This knowledge will be shared as much as possible.”
